History of the Department

The Department of Freshman Engineering has witnessed a dynamic and transformative journey since its inception in 2009. The department began with an intake of 500 students and a dedicated team of faculty members, steadily expanding over the years to accommodate around 850 students supported by qualified faculty. This growth represents the institute’s commitment to strengthening foundational engineering education and fostering academic excellence among first-year learners.

From traditional learning spaces to digitally empowered classrooms, the department has consistently upgraded its teaching infrastructure. Introduction of classroom projectors, installation of LED display systems to enhance visual learning, and complete deployment of interactive smart boards across classrooms. These technological interventions have elevated the teaching–learning experience, promoting better engagement, visualization, and conceptual clarity.

Laboratory facilities have been continuously enhanced with modern equipment, updated software tools, and improved safety standards. These upgrades empower students to apply theoretical concepts to practical experimentation and develop essential engineering skills early in their academic journey.

In addition to academic instruction, the department actively encourages a research-oriented culture among faculty members. Initiatives such as the Early Career Research (ECR) Project (2017) and Women Scientists (A) Project (2018) reflect the department’s dedication to innovation, scholarly contribution, and inclusive research opportunities.

The Department of Freshman Engineering continues to evolve, embracing emerging technologies, strengthening academic support, and nurturing the intellectual and personal growth of first-year engineering students. Its legacy of innovation and student-centric development remains a cornerstone of Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Technology and Management’s vision for excellence.
